Temple
of Enlightenment
First built in 1068, the Temple of Enlightenment is one of the Eight Great
Temples of the West
Mountain in the Jin
Dynasty. Covers an area of 9, 500 square meters arranged compactly in order,
the Temple of Enlightenment is solemn and magnificent
with great momentum. In 1428 during the reign of the Ming Emperor Xuande, the
temple was reconstructed and adopted its present name Temple of Enlightenment.
Temple of Enlightenment is
not only an ancient temple with rich cultural relics, but also a quiet place to
spend the summer holidays. Surrounded by mountains, it has plenty of plants
including famous flowers and ancient trees. A gingko and a yulan magnolia are
the most precious of their kinds in Beijing.
It is said that the yulan magnolia has been more than 300 years old that brought
from Sichuan
during the Qianlong era and survives today. Perhaps it is the most ancient
yulan magnolia in Beijing.

Great
Bell Temple(Dazhongsi)
Located in Haidian District of Beijing, Great
Bell Temple
had witnessed the emperors of Qing Dynasty pray for rain and Buddhists conducting
affairs. The core of this temple is Dzhonglou which is a unique building. The
famous bronze Great Bell, nearly 7-meter high, 46.5
ton, was hanged in the tower. Praised as "the King of Bells", this giant
Great Bell was so skillfully made that its sound could be heard 40 to 50
kilometers away. Besides, Great Bell Temple
is now the Ancient
Bell Museum
with 11 permanent exhibition halls.
Standing in the Chaoyang District, Temple of the God
of Taishan Mountain was a place of worship for the Supreme
Celestial Emperor of Taishan
Mountain. Expanded and
rebuilt several times during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Temple of the God of Taishan Mountain
standing today date from the Qing Dynasty, though they feature the architectural
styles of the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
